You did the right thing.

Eat those fries quick, or take them out of the cup before they steam themselves and get soggy. The burger will wait.

I like the burgers but they gotta up their fry game. Fries are supposed to be crispy, not mushy.

I went to a Five Guys a year or so ago and ordered a burger without fries. I think the guy taking my order was the owner or the manager and asked why I didn’t order fries. I said they’re a little too soggy for my taste and he got kinda defensive, saying it must have been a bad batch. When I sat down to eat he came over with a small cup for me to try again. I accepted them and said thank you, and showed him how they’re soft on the outside and I prefer crispy fries. He looked kinda disappointed and said “oh, we don’t make them like that.”

I know, that’s why I didn’t order them.

In theory the Five Guys fries should be excellent, because they do the traditional double fry method.

I worked in a fancy Belgian/French beer bar as a cook while on a diversion from the corporate world, and we pre-fried about 200 lbs of potatoes worth of fries every morning, stored them in tubs in the walk-in fridge, and re-fried them to order. If you don’t fry them enough the second time, they’re mushy.

The problem is Five Guys employees often undercook the fries on that second trip through the fryer.

I tried 5G for the first time on our way home from vacation a few weeks ago. Was appalled at the cost and really disappointed in the food. Fries were soggy and bland and the burger, while decent, was definitely not worth the money.

People above are complaining about the Five Guys fries, which I do understand. But In N Out’s fries are just awful. They can be upgraded to edible if you get them extra crispy animal style, but I’ve never understand how the burgers can be so good and the fries so bad.

With McDonalds announcing that they’re going to start doing 24/7 delivery (no idea how or why...I noticed an Uber Eats sign the last time I went to one, is that what they meant?) - now crappy fries should never be a problem.

Eat at Five Guys, In-N-Out, wherever you want - both those have legit burgers. But McD fries have no competition...so just have some delivered to you! (First World) Problem solved!

In-N-Out or get out.

But seriously, I tried Five Guys when it came to town and I think the price is too high to make it super good.

But it did make me appreciate In-N-Out more as I was a hater before because EVERYONE in southern California says it’s the best. I also didn’t appreciate the wonderful tomatoes or the crispy lettuce. Now that I do I realize it is quite delicious for the money.

And animal fries!

With critical injuries, they speak of the Golden Hour, after which recovery becomes increasingly unlikely. Similarly, McD’s fries have a Golden Ten Minutes, after which they become increasingly inedible. I can’t imagine how they would taste after 15 or 20 minutes in a delivery vehicle.

I will agree with you on the superiority of McD’s fries. When paired with a chocolate shake, they make the world’s best snack when you have the munchies.

Worst part of five guys it’s the incredible need for sleep I have after eating there, I swear they put sleeping pills in their food.

Also, Shake Shack is the best fast food burger.

But my local diner makes better burgers than both of those places (suck it places without 24/7 greasy diners). And bang for the buck the cheap burger at my local dive bar beats all, is cheaper than five guys, and I can get a beer.
